GURUDWARA SHRI DAMDAMA SAHIB
This city is blessed with sacred visit of SHRI GURU ARJAN DEV JI and SHRI GURU HARGOBIND SAHIB JI. In 1687 during monsoon days, SHRI GURU HARGOBIND SAHIB JI crossing beas camped here while coming from kartapur sahib. Earlier this place was inhabited by SHRI GURU ARJAN DEV JI in 1644, but later it was occupied by Chandu Shah and Bhagwan Das Khatri.
When SHRI GURU HARGOBIND SAHIB camped at place where Gurdwara Shri Granthian Sahib is situated, Bhagwan Das opposed GURU SAHIB and spoke bad words. Due to which the Sikhs taking permission from GURU SAHIB, thrashed him and threw in the river. After hearing the news of his father, Gherd's son Ratan Chand and Chandu's son Karam Chand complained to Sube Abdul Khan of Jalandhar. Accepting their request, Abdul Khan attacked GURU SAHIB with an army of 15,000. There was a terrible war in this area for three days, In which Abdul Khan and his son Nabi Bakhsh and five generals were killed. GURU SAHIB came here, opened his waist and took rest. Since then the name of this place came to be Damdama Sahib. Bhai Jattu ji Bhai Mathra ji Bhai Nano ji Bhai Shaktu ji, Sikhs of GURU SAHIB were martyred in this war. GURU SAHIB himself performed the last rites of martyred Sikhs, and also buried the Turks by digging a pit and built a beautiful platform on it. Sitting on that platform, GURU SAHIB organized the diwan and asked that if any Sikh could recite Japuji Sahib, with all pronunciations. Bhai Gopal ji started reciting the pure text of Japuji Sahib. As paath was about to end. GURU SAHIB was thinking, what reward should i give to Sikh who recited so pure Paath and that too with such devotion? While thinking, a thought came to the mind of GURU SAHIB, that i will bless this Sikh with Guru Gaddi.
On the other hand, Bhai Sahib thought that if GURU SAHIB is happy, then he should bless him with his horse. At the end of the paath, GURU SAHIB said that Bhai Gopal ji, would have blessed you with Gurtagaddi if the thought of horse hadn't come to your mind. But still you will be free from cycle births and deaths. In this way, GURU SAHIB told the Sikhs the importance of reciting pure Bani. Even today, those Sikhs who pray at this place assuming GURU SAHIB in person, get their wishes fulfilled. At this place, GURU SAHIB had a story from Pandit Nita Nand ji and cleared the doubts of the mind. Nita Nanda adopted the Sikhi. It was here that GURU SAHIB gave a sermon to Jani Shah Ji and he also received Sikhi Dharan. It is from here that GURU SAHIB sent Bhai Garia ji and other Sikhs for preaching. GURU SAHIB built a beautiful city here. In the city, got Maseet, Dharamshala, Langar built along with 40 wells. Baba Budha Ji and Bhai Gurdas Ji came here to see GURU SAHIB. After GURU SAHIB's name this city was named Hargobindpur It is from here that Baba Budha ji went to Ramdas in his last days.
